Kylian Mbappe revealed that French President Emmanuel Macron has no influence on his career choices. Mbappe informed PSG in writing that he had no plans to extend his deal, which expires in 2024, but he subsequently clarified that he had not requested permission from the French club to go to Real Madrid. In 2021, when Mbappe was rumored to be leaving PSG, Macron pleaded with him to stay and play in the French top division. The 24-year-old merely restated his position that his intention was to continue with PSG next season, despite reports in French media earlier this week that Macron would push for Mbappe to stay.
“What sort of power does the president possess? On my professional future in 2023, none. He wants me to remain in Paris, and that is what I want to do. We have the same perspective,” Kylian Mbappe said about France President Emmanuel Macron. “Will I be leaving PSG? I’ve already responded, stating that staying at PSG is currently my only choice and that is what I want to do. When preseason resumes, I’m prepared to return. I didn’t believe I had insulted anyone or that a letter could kill someone.”
PSG must decide between letting Mbappe complete his contract’s final year and not being able to recuperate any of the €180 million (£154 million) they paid to recruit the striker from AS Monaco in 2017. In each of the last five seasons, Mbappe has ended as Ligue 1’s leading scorer.
“Since I was very little, I’ve become accustomed to it. I’m pondering the game tomorrow. My main worry is that,” he added. “Outside events are incidental; I’ve always been able to accomplish both. I want to demonstrate my skill as a player tomorrow.”
Didier Deschamps, the head coach of France, supported Mbappe as well when he was elected the team’s captain in March.
“We talk about a lot with Kylian since he’s the team’s captain, he’s dedicated to the squad,” France head coach Didier Deschamps said. “He is not tense any more than normal. He is constantly in the limelight, perhaps now a little more so, but neither he nor the group are affected by this.”
