France striker Olivier Giroud revealed that Kylian Mbappe is the best striker he has played with in his career. In the weekend matchup between Les Bleus and Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions, Giroud, a former Arsenal and Chelsea striker, is expected to start alongside Mbappe in the French assault. Giroud’s goal in France’s round-of-16 victory against Poland broke Thierry Henry’s all-time goalscoring mark, while Mbappe is presently in first place in the World Cup Golden Boot standings with five goals.
“One of the best players I’ve played with is Kylian, in my opinion. He is fearsome and still young, which is concerning because he can still get better,” Olivier Giroud said about his teammate Kylian Mbappe. “He is incredibly effective and has been essential for us from the start of the tournament. He is also very competitive and decisive. In all the teams I’ve played for, he is without a doubt the best striker I’ve ever played with. He hasn’t yet shown us his best side; hopefully, he will surpass all previous records when it does. Both you and I are aware of this.”
“We can act in such a spontaneous way because of football. That combination resulted in that aim. Our connection has always been positive,” he added. “Our interactions have always been positive. We want to make our supporters happy and pass on this contagious passion to the future players.”
Mbappe’s defense-splitting pass was the source of the 36-year-goal old’s against Poland in the round of 16, and Giroud praised the “infectious excitement” the two France strikers possess. Giroud has extensive knowledge of the English game thanks to his nine years of continuous Premier League involvement for Chelsea and Arsenal between 2012 and 2021. The France striker claimed he has been discussing how much they both want to avoid losing to one of their major rivals with national team captain Hugo Lloris, who plays club football for Tottenham.
