Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes that Chelsea managers have an impossible job on their hands with the club’s recruitment policy. Chelsea has spent more than £600 million on signings for 17 players since Todd Boehly acquired the club, shattering the British transfer record, and has fired two managers, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. Chelsea’s transfer policy has been more of a poisoned chalice despite having what seems like endless resources at their disposal. This has surely contributed to the club’s problems under Frank Lampard and the demise of Gary Potter, as the Blues currently occupy the 12th spot in the Premier League. Prior to leading Liverpool’s summer transfer activity, Klopp said that he felt sympathy for Chelsea’s predicament but also expressed joy at their high-spending plan failing.
“We will do business, and I am aware that football is usually hectic. It implies that we require five, six, or seven players because Liverpool is performing well. Since Chelsea is a top-tier team, I must admit that I have a small amount of sympathy for them. However, it’s encouraging to see that you can’t just put together a team of top players and hope for the best,” Jurgen Klopp said about Chelsea. “You need to bring a team, and the owners there at Chelsea overestimated this requirement and gave their coaches an impossible task. Two dressing rooms and two practice fields are incompatible. You need to be a team player. That’s the only explanation for my joy at [Chelsea’s defeat]. Chelsea will be OK because they will ultimately be strong and fine. It is a prime example of something you can’t do at any level. You must create a new squad and recruit the best players. We are writing a fresh narrative after this team’s amazing one.”
According to Klopp, Liverpool’s major owner John W. Henry and director Mike Gordon are protected on Merseyside by his close friendship with them.
