Gary Neville believes that Liverpool owners FSG must back Jurgen Klopp in the summer to help them return to the top. Even though Erik ten Hag’s team has played two more games than Liverpool, a run of six straight league victories has brought Liverpool to within a point of their faltering fourth-place rivals Manchester United. Liverpool has accumulated 19 out of a possible 21 points, giving them a slim chance to still qualify for the Champions League. Liverpool has fallen well short of the standards that have seen them win seven trophies, including the Premier League championship and the Champions League under Klopp’s rule, less than a year after coming close to an unheard-of quadruple.
“Support for Jurgen Klopp is essential. They were able to push themselves in the transfer market and support him when they fell short, so they’ll need to do that again this summer,” Gary Neville said about Jurgen Klopp. “Other teams will make investments. Aside from Van Dijk, Allison, and Nunez, Klopp has been able to maximize the performance of players who, in the end, haven’t cost outrageous sums of money thanks to his ability to attract strong players. They will need to do some of that, but they should also, in my opinion, spend a significant amount of money to sign one or two quality players for Klopp.”
After Mohamed Salah broke more records in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Brentford last weekend, Neville was all praise for the attacker. The first Liverpool player to score in nine straight home games was Salah. He is the most recent Anfield player to score 100 goals. He has now completed a third straight season with 30 goals across all competitions. Neville lauded Salah’s dependability and consistency, especially during a difficult season for Liverpool.
“In a challenging season for Liverpool, 30 for the year is a respectable performance. He’s constantly there, and that’s what’s most amazing. consistently, dependably, and without fail. It might sound very simple, but my father always told me to show up on time, don’t let people down, and be trustworthy. It’s a really fundamental thing to go to work,” he added.
