Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the FA over comments made towards Paul Tierney during their 4-3 win over Tottenham. The Liverpool boss also criticized Tierney in his post-game interviews, stating the referee’s remarks when giving him the booking was “not okay.” The manager also sustained a hamstring injury in the incident. After the game, he admitted that the reason for his initial rage was Tierney’s soft foul against Mohamed Salah on Ben Davies, which occurred just before Jota’s last-second goal to tie the score at 3-3 and set up Spurs’ equalizer.
“Despite his claims to the contrary, we have a history with (Paul) Tierney, so I’m not sure why he would have anything against us,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said before being charged by the FA. “In my celebration of the fourth official, I wasn’t impolite or said anything unnecessary, which is fair. I was punished by pulling my hamstring. It was unacceptable, though, what he said to me after showing me the yellow card. I’m not sure why he holds such an odd gaze over me. But then? He officiated for Tottenham in 2021 when Harry Kane should have been sent off. And much while I love this erratic guy and don’t want to see him get sent off, he definitely should.”
“Simply said, it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. It shouldn’t have happened at all, but due to the intensity of the feelings and rage that were present,” he added. “I didn’t say anything inappropriate; rather, I shrieked something absurd, “Without you, without you.” When Paul Tierney approached me, I was trying to stay away from the fourth official. To be perfectly honest, I had assumed a yellow card and had not anticipated a red one. He smiled at me and said, “For me, it is a red card, but because of him, it is yellow,” before waving a card in my direction.”
