Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany have won the December awards in the Championship. Akpom extended his impressive form with four goals in as many games, all of which were scored while he was leading the line after gaining confidence while playing in a more subdued role. His three goals against Wigan demonstrated his lightning-fast reflexes.
“I’m happy for Chuba. He’s been doing a great job, and I know he’d be the first to credit his teammates for setting the groundwork,” Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick said. “Individual recognition is usually beneficial because it shows your team is functioning well overall.”
“It’s incredible to win the prize, and I’m thankful and humbled. I simply want to maintain my form and aid the squad in achieving our goals,” Chuba Akpom said. “We’re doing well, and the season thus far has been successful. However, we still have a tonne of football left to play.”
The Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for December is Burnley manager Vincent Kompany. The leaders of Kompany’s team answered every question put to them, cruising to 3-0 victories over QPR and Birmingham, rallying from a goal down to defeat Middlesbrough, and taking down Stoke in a close encounter to finish with 12 points and 10 goals from four games.
“I’m thrilled to earn this honor once more after being nominated with some outstanding league managers. Christmas was a busy time for us, but everyone chipped in and it paid off,” Burnley manager Vincent Kompany said after winning the award with Chuba Akpom. “I want to thank everyone who was involved, including the coaches, physiotherapists, doctors, analysts, sports scientists, kit crew, grounds workers, and everyone else who helped out.”
“Burnley under Vincent Kompany was on fire in December, entering the New Year with all 12 points from four games,” Don Goodman said. “Table-toppers appear powerful under Kompany’s direction, and if this outstanding form continues, this won’t be the only trophy he’ll be taking home this season.”
