The Burnley duo of Vincent Kompany and Ian Maatsen have won the January Manager of the Month and Player of the Month respectively. The left-back, whose defense has much improved under Vincent Kompany, uses his speed to surge forward whenever there is a chance to join the Burnley attack, as he did with a sensational double against Swansea that included a diving free-kick and a 25-yard thunderbolt. Kompany is the boss who never stops giving, having guided his team to nine points from yet another flawless month. Burnley, who so frequently win games, demonstrated their tenacity by defeating a resurgent West Brom by coming from behind.
“The Clarets had yet another immaculate month, and Vincent Kompany’s influence is becoming increasingly clear,” Don Goodman said about Burnley manager Vincent Kompany.
Luke Leahy, a midfielder for Shrewsbury Town, has been named the January Sky Bet League One Player of the Month. The former defender has transformed into a dynamic box-to-box midfielder who has three goals and two assists in five games. He is equally skilled at heading away balls into the Shrewsbury box as he is at sparking creativity at the opposite end. The Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for January is Derby County manager Paul Warne. At Pride Park, steady advancement throughout Warne’s first three months in command gave way to perfection in January, when the team won all four games and had an 11-4 goal differential. Most impressively, a late comeback victory at Port Vale completed the month.
Conor McAleny of Salford City has been selected as the January Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month. The 30-year-old scored six of Salford’s opening seven goals in January after scoring just three goals in an injury-plagued 18 months. In his doubles against Bradford and Sutton, he scored with a powerful free kick, a delicate volley, and a deft flick to open up space for a shot. The Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month for January is Matt Bloomfield, the manager of Colchester United. If Bloomfield’s makeover was gradual until the turn of the year, it has recently become dramatic. With three key away victories over relegation opponents Harrogate, Rochdale, and Hartlepool, Colchester amassed 13 points from six games.
