Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has signed a five-year contract after gaining promotion to the Premier League. After joining the Clarets from Belgian club Anderlecht last summer, Kompany guided them back to the Premier League at the first attempt. The 37-year-old’s performance has seen him linked with managerial jobs elsewhere, including at Tottenham and Chelsea. Burnley earned promotion back to the top flight with seven games remaining before winning the Championship. But by deciding to stay in Lancashire until at least 2028, the former Manchester City captain has put a stop to rumors regarding his near future. When Chelsea and Tottenham were looking for their next permanent managers, Kompany was on their shortlist. He has also been noted as a prospective manager for his old team Manchester City in the future.
“It seemed appropriate to sign for the next five years with Burnley and Turf Moor almost from the beginning,” Vincent Kompany said. “Turf Moor is once again a fortress thanks to the support of the supporters, and we continue to look forward to the future and the challenge of making Burnley better with each step.”
“We are overjoyed. Vincent has agreed to a new contract. He is the ideal match for how we all envision the future of Burnley Football Club,” chairman Alan Pace said. “A remarkable leader who raises the bar constantly and pushes our club to the heights we all desire.”
With almost 1000 matches to be aired per season, the EFL clubs have unanimously accepted a record domestic rights deal with Sky Sports for a five-year term. This is the most games ever broadcast under a club football agreement. The agreement, which will last from season 2024/25 through season 2028/29, will include £895 million in guaranteed payments as well as £40 million in marketing advantages. With the new arrangement, the value of the existing rights agreement has increased by 50%, and all EFL clubs will receive much more visibility through Sky Sports’ on-air and online support of EFL competitions, clubs, and charitable endeavors.
