Luis Enrique is on the verge of becoming the new Paris Saint-Germain head coach. The Spaniard, who was previously considered for the Chelsea and Tottenham positions earlier this summer, is expected to succeed Christophe Galtier as the manager of the French champions. Since departing Spain in December, when they were eliminated by Morocco in the World Cup’s round of 16 in Qatar, Luis Enrique has been jobless.
The 53-year-old’s final club position was with Barcelona when he captured the 2015 Triple Crown. In spite of the fact that Galtier, 56, guided PSG to the Ligue 1 championship last season, the former manager of Roma and Celta Vigo now appears destined to succeed him. However, PSG’s performance dipped following the World Cup with 10 losses in 28 games. In the round of 16, Bayern Munich eliminated them from the Champions League, and in the same round of the French Cup, they lost to rivals Marseille.
Galtier was hired by PSG in July 2022, and he still has one year left on his contract. As part of a French inquiry into claims of racism at his previous club Nice, Galtier was served with a summons to appear in court in December on accusations of psychological harassment and discrimination. On Friday morning, the Frenchman and his son, John Valovic-Galtier, were taken into jail to be questioned. Galtier, who rejects the accusations, was sent to the public prosecutor’s office following his son’s release from custody and will be tried in Nice on December 15.
Bayern Munich, however, isn’t ready to give up on trying to get Harry Kane, the captain of Tottenham. The German champions want to make another bid, and Bayern is reportedly attempting to determine whether Tottenham is willing to trade Kane this summer or not. Kane is not for sale, according to Tottenham, and the club would not accept any offers for the England captain. When Kane’s contract with Spurs expires in 2024, Bayern will be interested in acquiring him on a free transfer.
With the winning goal against Manchester City in February, Kane shattered Tottenham’s all-time scoring record. Kane surpassed Jimmy Greaves’ mark of 266 goals for the Spurs, which held since 1970, as a result. Kane has his sights set on Alan Shearer’s 260-goal Premier League record as his next objective.
