Tottenham are reportedly not willing to sell Harry Kane in the summer irrespective of his signing a new contract or where they finish in the league. The England international, who is focused on delivering a top-four finish, will enter the final year of his contract at the conclusion of the season, and conversations about extending his term with the club are now on hold. Even if that remains the case coming into the next season, Tottenham has no intention of sanctioning a deal. The Spurs are focused on closing a trade, but they are being patient with their star player. The presence of Harry Kane and their contribution to Tottenham are more significant than any transfer money he may earn, especially with manager Antonio Conte poised to leave and football director Fabio Paratici’s future uncertain.
Manchester United, Kane’s long-term admirer, is keen on the 29-year-old but cannot afford a transfer controversy in a priority position. Erik ten Hag wants to sign a forward as soon as possible, and his ideal scenario is to have fresh signings in place for most of pre-season. The Carabao Cup winners would “definitely” look into a move for the striker if everything fell into place and Spurs changed their stance from resistant to open to business. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, on the other hand, is not interested in a war of attrition. Depending on their summer trade and the profile brought into the attack – United are very conscious of the need to sell well and meet Financial Fair Play standards – they may reconsider the Kane position in the coming months.
United has scouted a number of dynamic players, including Victor Osimhen, Goncalo Ramos, Lautaro Martinez, Dusan Vlhaovic, and Mohammed Kudus. If Tottenham sticks to their guns this summer and still cannot persuade Kane to sign a new contract as the winter window approaches, he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in January, a situation in which Bayern Munich is particularly interested. Much will be determined by Spurs’ (and United’s) domestic result this season, as well as who succeeds Conte. If chosen, Mauricio Pochettino would persuade Kane to extend his contract, although sources close to the player feel an ambitious hire like Thomas Tuchel might also sway him.
