Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola believes his legacy at the club is already exceptional despite not winning the Champions League. With one victory required to win the Premier League championship for the sixth time in six years and an upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley, City’s season may conclude in history. But before that, on Wednesday, Guardiola’s team hosts Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final. Regardless of what transpires in the remaining weeks of the season, the City manager seems unconcerned with how he will be remembered.
“Already, I’ve left a remarkable legacy. I’ve already spent a lot of time here. We are not naive; we understand the significance of [Wednesday’s] game. Since we are all united here, it may be one of the most significant games. We can’t dispute that. For the rival, for the competition, and for many more reasons,” Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola said. “I told the guys to seize the moment and enjoy it because we are really fortunate to be in this situation. We own the power; it is up to us. To win one game and go to the championship, all we need to do is be ourselves. I have a fantastic feeling about the team, so we are going to give it all. Whatever transpires, I want to express my gratitude to them for bringing me and the City supporters back here.”
Despite being in their greatest form of the season with 11 straight Premier League victories, Kevin De Bruyne’s equalizer left the first leg tied at 1-1, and Guardiola feels his team will need to play better than they did at the Bernabeu to advance.
“We can arrive at a favorable time, but you must deliver. Not simply the want or dream, either. All they need to do is what they have been doing for a long time, particularly throughout this season. To go to the final, I feel that we must perform better than we did at the Bernabeu,” he added. “Hopefully, the team that deserves to win wins. We have to work hard. I have to instill my athletes with this concentration in their minds and hearts. In order to defeat Real Madrid, they must put on an outstanding performance.”
