Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola believes the win over Real Madrid in the Champions League is a highlight of his career. City advanced to the championship game after crushing Real Madrid 4-0 in the second leg of their semifinal match, winning 5-1 overall. Real Madrid was no match for City’s incredible streak, which has seen them win their last 15 games at the Etihad Stadium and go 23 games without a loss. The Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan will take place on June 10 in Istanbul. With Carlo Ancelotti, the only manager to have made more final appearances in the history of the European Cup, Guardiola has now advanced to the Champions League final for a record-tying fourth time. His one and only game with City ended in a loss to Chelsea, but his team is the overwhelming favorite to face Inter Milan on June 10.
“Considering the opponent, Real Madrid, in the Champions League semi-final, this is one of the best [results of my career]. We were required to perform well, which we did, particularly in the first half. It was really good,” Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola said after their win over Real Madrid. “These previous few days, I had the impression that we had the right balance of intensity and relaxation to play these kinds of games. After ten or fifteen minutes, I began to feel as though the anguish from last season was still present today. When we played something similar to how we did today last season [against Real Madrid], it was really difficult and difficult.”
“It was quite difficult for us to lose the manner we did since we had to ingest the poison while there. There is always a second opportunity in football and in sports, so when Madrid was drawn,” he added. “Everything was available today. The enthusiasm we felt during the previous season after a year of the players receiving criticism for lacking morals. Football caused us to lose, but today we were there. I am really happy for the organization as a whole. Then, we conceded defeat, but now, a year later, we are in the Champions League final. Life and football both present possibilities. You must keep trying; you cannot give up.”
