Man City boss Pep Guardiola is hopeful for a quick resolution of the charges for alleged breaches of the financial rules of the Premier League. The Premier League submitted Man City’s case to an independent commission in February after the club was accused of more than 100 financial rule violations stretching from 2009/10 to 2017/18, although the club categorically disputes the accusations. Man City has won the title in five of the previous six seasons. When the allegations against City first surfaced, Guardiola steadfastly maintained their innocence and asserted that the team had already been “condemned” in an effort to allay any concerns that he could be enticed to quit the Etihad.
“I’ll return the next year. I’ll remain. Don’t worry, we’ll be there when the Premier League commits 100 violations against us,” Man City boss Pep Guardiola said. “I want the Premier League or the judiciary to decide [a matter] as quickly as feasible. If we feel that what we have done as a club for many years has been right, then people cease talking about it. If we did anything bad, then everyone will know about it. By tomorrow, we would adore it. Hopefully, they won’t be too busy so that the judges can see it, hear all sides out, and ultimately determine which is better. Because in the end, I am quite certain that the victory we achieved on the pitch was one we deserved.”
“We concede that it exists. If it occurs, it occurs. Let’s go on. Why not get it over with in 24 hours? Come on, let’s get down and speak, with attorneys present on both sides,” he added. “Let’s go. As quickly as possible, for everyone’s sake. However, I am aware that there are many instances of injustice in the world. We’re hoping to complete it as soon as feasible.”
The allegations threw an embarrassing shade over his team’s championship celebrations, but Guardiola wants a decision made promptly “for the benefit of everyone” despite reports that the process may drag on for years. Only Sir Alex Ferguson has won the triple crown in English football, and Guardiola is two victories away from doing so with City in the FA Cup final against Manchester United and the Champions League final against Inter Milan.
