Rangers have completed the signing of Cyriel Dessers from Cremonese for an undisclosed fee. The striker, who signed a four-year contract with Rangers and scored 10 goals last season, including six in Serie A, had been a top target for manager Michael Beale. In an effort to pass Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Dessers’ signing comes after those of Kieran Dowell, Abdallah Sima, Sam Lammers, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, and Sam Lammers. The 28-year-old has four caps for Nigeria and has previously played in Belgium with Genk, Lokeren, and OH Leuven as well as in Holland with Feyenoord and FC Utrecht.
“Being finally here makes me quite pleased, and it feels great. Although there have been some hard and demanding days, it is wonderful to finally be here,” Cyriel Dessers said after completing his move to Rangers. “Although the stadium, supporters, and club have a long history, I prefer to focus on the present situation. I am glad to be here because Michael Beale and I had some very nice conversations about his goals, intentions, and desires both on and off the pitch. I believed that may be a really good fit for myself and the squad.”
“We are overjoyed that Cyriel has joined our group. He offers a wealth of experience from competing in European tournaments and playing in Holland, Belgium, and Italy,” Rangers boss Michael Beale said. “We had a very specific profile in mind, and we think Cyriel will provide us with a range of attributes, both in and out of possession. When we first met, we had a long conversation about how he fit with the other strikers on our team and our playing style.”
“He is a fantastic age for leadership and charisma on our squad at 28 years old. Cyriel showed a strong desire to come here and worked very hard to make this move a reality,” he added. “We are overjoyed that he and his family have decided to join us at Rangers. He is a great addition to our team, and I am looking forward to working closely with him in the upcoming seasons.”
