Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi has signed a new four-year deal at the club. The Japanese international helped Celtic win a domestic triple last season by scoring 34 goals in 50 outings for the Hoops. Due to his performance, rumors surfaced last summer that he would leave the team after manager Ange Postecoglou moved to Tottenham. But by agreeing to a contract that would keep him at Parkhead until 2027, the 28-year-old has pledged his future to Celtic. Kyogo’s deal comes a day after Celtic sold Jota to Saudi Pro League team Al Ittihad for £25 million.
“I’m thrilled to prolong my tenure at this amazing club for another four years,” Kyogo Furuhashi said after signing a contract extension with Celtic. “It is an honour to represent Celtic Football Club and its amazing supporters. The season before that was outstanding. Throughout the whole campaign, we aimed to give every game we played our best effort. We work extremely hard every day to win trophies and please our supporters, both on and off the field.”
Kyogo, who joined Celtic from Japanese club Vissel Kobe in 2021 and has 54 goals in 83 games, says he is “looking forward” to working with new manager Brendan Rodgers.
“The success of our club will continue to be our primary motivation for the ensuing season. I’m pleased to compete in the Champions League for this legendary club and to defend our trophies,” he added. “My own motivation is to continue scoring goals and cheer on my teammates when they succeed. I can’t wait to start working with Brendan. He is an experienced manager who is acquainted with the group and knows what is necessary to thrive here. Together with my coworkers, I am looking forward to working with him.”
“The news is excellent for the team. Given that Kyogo is a crucial member of our team, I’m pleased that he has agreed to a new contract,” Brendan Rodgers said. “Kyogo has developed and showcased his extraordinary skills since entering Scottish football. In just two seasons, he has a Triple, over 50 club goals, and five domestic honours. This calls for a great amount of work, dedication, and sacrifice both on and off the field.”
