Celtic have announced the signing of Marco Tilio from Melbourne City on a five-year deal making him the second signing of the new Brendan Rodgers era. Tilio moved to Melbourne from Sydney FC three years ago, but he had his sights set on a move to Europe all along.
“I’m ecstatic to be coming to Europe and affiliating with such a prestigious team and club. I want to play at my highest level, challenge defenders in and around the penalty area, assist in goals for the team, and maybe even score a few goals myself,” Celtic new signing Marco Tilio said. “I’ve seen Australians go there and be successful at such a prestigious club, so it’s a great opportunity for me that I couldn’t pass up. Additionally, it surely eased my decision to be around Tommy Rogic and Aaron Mooy at the national team camp in the past.”
“It has always been a plan ever since I moved to Melbourne three years ago. I had planned to go there, perform well, and maybe go on to bigger and better things. But I think the time has come for me to go to Europe and really put myself to the test,” he added. “‘And I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this group. I’m hoping to play my best football and put my best foot forward. In my perspective, there is a great opportunity to be a part of a team that plays in the Champions League and consistently wins championships. That, in my opinion, is important. Additionally, if you want to be a part of that as a player, you need to win championships and contests. For me, Australia has always been about that, so I want to relocate there and continue doing it that way.”
Tilio will be in Scotland from Australia next week, joining Odin Thiago Holm as newcomer to the club for the summer.
