Burnley has announced that JJ Watt and his wife Kelia have invested in the club. JJ, a three-time defensive player of the year winner who spent a total of 12 seasons with the Houston Texans from 2011 to 20 and the Arizona Cardinals from 2021 to 2022, retired from the sport at the conclusion of the 2022 season. Kealia played three times for the US national team in 2016, and she has a successful club career with Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars. She still holds the record for the quickest goal scored by a rookie for the women’s national team, netting 48 seconds into her international debut. JJ and Kealia have always been interested in English football, and JJ supports Chelsea while Kealia supports Arsenal. However, after investing in Burnley, their allegiances are now firmly with Burnley.
“We went to Burnley, looked around, and fell in love right away. It’s a really incredible place. What Vincent (Kompany) has done with this bunch is amazing. We have a lot of anticipation for this season. We are thrilled. It will be amazing that we can be there on the first day. We are eagerly counting down the days. It all boils down to having the opportunity to change the club,” NFL star JJ Watt said announcing his investment in Burnley. “Despite my belief that what [chairman] Alan (Pace] is doing at Burnley and what Vincent is developing are both fantastic initiatives, Chelsea is unquestionably an incredible club and they have created something fantastic there. All that is needed is to show there at the right time. ”
The Watts spent time at the team and in the neighborhood earlier in the season when they went to Turf Moor to watch the Clarets defeat Wigan 3-0. Additionally, they are expected to attend Burnley’s final home game of the year against Cardiff City on Monday, May 8. The two also spoke about being inspired by Wrexham’s tale when Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took owned the club.
