Barcelona boss Xavi has asked the club’s hierarchy to bring Lionel Messi back to the club. Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the conclusion of the current season, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta has acknowledged that the club is considering bringing him back. Messi spent the past two seasons with PSG after Barcelona allowed him to go for free owing to their inability to renew his contract. Between 2003 and 2021, Messi scored 672 goals in 778 games for Barca.
“I have no doubt that Messi would aid us in achieving our football goals if he were to come back. I have told the president that I am certain of my position. He still has the drive and is a committed football player,” Barcelona boss Xavi said about Lionel Messi. “He is still a victor, a leader, and a unique individual. Since 2010 when we attained the peak, Barcelona has not experienced the same level. Messi scores goals opens doorways, and possesses the capacity to play the decisive pass. He can make the difference in the latter third.”
“We will speak with him and his delegates. There is no question in my mind that Leo has the upper hand. Yes, it is true that we have already achieved success in the post-Messi period, and while this achievement has exceptional quality, it is extraordinary, and it is in any case undervalued, our concern was what will happen when Leo steps down,” he added. “Well, Barca has survived. I believe that we have done a great job of rebuilding the squad and the group, and this league championship and this Super Cup have exceptional worth even without the greatest player in football history. Being in the skin of someone who has accomplished everything is challenging. I’ve been quite explicit about my connection with him, even if I’m not inside his brain. The doors are open wide. And if he wants to come, I have no doubt that it would be possible and that he will assist us. He must decide, though. He has a personal preference.”
