Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold believes that they need to be near perfect to challenge Manchester City for the title next season. With a fifth-place finish and a final score of 22 points less than all-conquering Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp’s team lost out on playing in the Champions League the previous year.
“I believe that being honest is essential for a club. We definitely appreciate every tournament we participate in, but if you had asked us at this time last year if we wanted to place fifth, we all would have replied no, and the same is true now,” Trent Alexander-Arnold said about the Liverpool challenge to Manchester City next season. “Would we wish to place fifth the upcoming campaign? No. It is disappointing that we won’t be participating in that next season since we want to be winning the league, competing for titles, and playing in the Champions League. Since you need to be nearly flawless throughout the season in order to win the league, we are focused on challenging City and competing head-to-head with them.”
In the latter portions of the previous season, the 24-year-old made an impression for his team while playing as an inverted right-back who pushed into midfield. Then, in the most recent Euro 2024 qualifiers, he played for England in an advanced midfield position and excelled against Malta and North Macedonia. Alexander-Arnold just returned from a week-long preseason training camp in Oregon, in the United States, to assist his body get ready for Liverpool’s rigorous preseason training regimen.
“On a general level, I do love them. I prefer going on trips, living in hotels, and being at base camps with the team where you have to get to know one another,” he added. “You become closer and are all working hard for the upcoming season, which is thrilling since no one knows how it will turn out. Nevertheless, you put in the effort, hoping for the best and making sure that everyone is on board.”
