Sergio Aguero Bids Goodbye
With his deal due to expire, Aguero bid an emotional goodbye to Manchester City on Sunday, scoring twice in a 5-0 win over Everton.
“Maybe I’ll disclose a lie. Maybe he’s close to committing to a contract for my favorite team, Barcelona. He’ll be playing with Messi, the greatest player of all time. I’m certain he’ll enjoy himself. And it’s possible that with him on the field, Barcelona will become much more strong,” Guardiola told BBC.
The striker has long been regarded as a club hero, so it could come as a surprise to see him depart with little fanfare. However, both parties decided that playing time at the Etihad Stadium will be tough to come by in the future, and by transferring teams this summer, he can now begin his next phase without wasting time.
Manchester City gave him an emotional send-off. The teammates holds him over their heads to show their appreciation for his contributions to the organization.
Sergio Aguero ended his Manchester City career on a high note. He shattered Wayne Rooney’s record for most Premier League goals scored for a single club.
City’s all-time leading goalscorer will be out of contract at the end of the season. He scored his 184th Premier League goal in a 5-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season.
Aguero came on as a 65th-minute substitute and netted two goals to surpass Wayne Rooney’s 183 goals for Manchester United.
