Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes the Man City game is not a Premier League decider. Both City and Arsenal have long unbeaten streaks going into what might be the Premier League title game, but City’s momentum may be shifting. Three thrilling draws in a row for Arteta’s team have raised concerns about their composure going into the match.
They ran out to early 2-0 leads against both Liverpool and West Ham before losing steam and tying 2-2. On the other hand, they were behind 2-0 and 3-1 to Southampton before coming back to tie the game at 3-3 with two goals in the final three minutes. Prior to it, they had won seven straight league games, including three straight wins by three goals or more, giving them 24 out of a possible 30 points. Nevertheless, they have a winning record of 10 straight league games, one more than City, and in seven of those contests, they have scored three or more goals. They lost both legs of their last-16 match against Sporting Lisbon, ending their winning streak, and were eliminated from the Europa League on penalties.
“We are face to face with them and have made every effort to get closer to them. We were aware that we needed to travel to the Etihad. Will it be the turning point of the season? The answer is no,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said about the Man City game. “Mentality is very significant. Obviously, the belief is true. Based on their training, their responses, the ambiance in the locker room, and the way they support one another, we truly want it. Tomorrow night, it will be broadcast once more. However, because this level demands absolute excellence, we must deliver the proper performance at the proper moment.”
Since losing to Tottenham in early February, City has gone unbeaten in 16 games in all competitions, with 13 victories and 3 draws. Amazingly, relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest is the only team to have defeated them in the league during that span, drawing 1-1 with them in February thanks to a late equalizer from Chris Wood. In that stretch, City has won their other eight league contests, collecting 25 of the last 27 possible points.
