Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes that his side needs to take a look in the mirror after they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. With a brilliant performance that their competitors were unable to match, City cut the deficit to two points and now has two games remaining. Rob Holding’s goal for the visitors, who Arteta could only accept were absolutely outclassed, was followed by two goals and an assist from Kevin De Bruyne and a fourth from Erling Haaland.
“It is obvious from the analysis that the superior team won the game; they were likely at their best, particularly in the first half, while we were much below par. The gap becomes too much when that occurs,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said. “In the first 30 minutes, we failed to perform all the fundamental things that must be done in order to compete with an excellent team, win duals, and comprehend what the game requires. As a result, we were penalized, and we could have been punished even more. We had some changes we wanted to make but couldn’t carry them out. Because we have done it in the past in many ways as well, we must remain devoted to what has brought us this far. It won’t ensure anything, but now is the moment to assess our own performance and consider what we might have done differently.”
“I would rather provide that to the participants. In every area, they were superior. We had them in the corners, but they were more active, kept the ball better, and won every single battle; with just two passes, they were through on our goal. They were superior, so they deserved to win the game,” he added. “We were not helped by the way we entered the game. We frequently land ourselves in sticky circumstances. All of the first and second balls were lost. This is also a tribute to them since they were incredibly good because it caused uncertainty and prevented us from winning the game the manner we wanted.”
By defeating Fulham on Sunday, Manchester City can take over the league’s top spot before Arsenal’s next game on Tuesday, May 2, at home against Chelsea. Pep Guardiola, though, thinks that their victory on Wednesday night did not seal the championship and that their next three games will play a significant role in who takes home the trophy.
