Mason Mount has completed his Manchester United medical ahead of his proposed £60m move. An official announcement is anticipated within the next 24 hours as contracts are still being finalized. The agreement includes a £55 million down payment and a $5 million performance-based bonus. The agreement contains a possible £5 million in add-ons, which are heavily reliant on performance and success. The five-year deal from United includes a one-year option for the England international. Mount’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in one year, and United’s Premier League opponents originally turned down three of their proposals.
Rasmus Hojlund is still up for negotiation with United and Atalanta. Although there is a disparity in worth, it is believed that the athlete wants to transfer. The team has a valuation for the player as well, and if they believe Atalanta is overcharging for the player, they will move on to alternate options. Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt is another player that United is considering.
A new goalie is still needed in the interim. Andre Onana of Inter Milan is one of the few players United is considering. He could be too pricey, though, and United is still considering alternative possibilities. David De Gea, a 32-year-old Spaniard who is now without a contract, is nevertheless open to discussing a new one.
When Erik ten Hag was the head coach of Ajax, he first ran into Mount. The 18-year-old was playing on loan at Vitesse Arnhem when his free kick set up his team’s third goal in a 3-2 victory over Ajax. Ten Hag allegedly sought to sign Mount for the Dutch team the following season on loan from Chelsea when he was in charge of just his ninth game at Ajax. In his first full season of senior football, Ten Hag had produced 14 goals and 10 assists, primarily from central midfield.
“Undoubtedly, Manchester United is receiving a better bargain. The agreement is a condemnation of the disarray at Chelsea and the haphazard way the team has been managed over the past 12 months. Chelsea is losing one of its homegrown stars, a club icon, a player who has excelled for them, and a great fan favorite,” Jonathan Liew said after Mason Mount completed his Manchester United medical. “Both the fact that they are unable to maintain him and the fact that he views Manchester United as the more reliable long-term alternative speak much about Chelsea’s current situation.”
