Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho will miss an important part of the season after suffering an injury against Southampton. Garnacho was seen leaving Old Trafford in a protective boot after being tackled by Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters in Sunday’s draw, which puts United two points ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand. The absence of the 18-year-old adds to boss Erik ten Hag’s selection problems as it was revealed Casemiro would miss the next four domestic matches due to suspension after receiving his second red card of the season against Southampton. Christian Eriksen, Anthony Martial, and Marcel Sabitzer are also out. Garnacho must withdraw from Argentina’s squad for the international break, which means he will be absent from United’s games against Real Betis and Fulham.
“It’s difficult for me to put into words how I’m feeling right now. Sadly, I will be unable to assist my club and teammates in the upcoming games, which are an important part of Manchester United’s season,” Alejandro Garnacho said. “I’m also unhappy that I won’t be able to join my Argentinian National Team teammates in what would have been a fantastic and proud moment for my family and me. This is a regular part of sports and our careers, but I’m already concentrating on my recovery. God has taught me never to give up, and I intend to come back stronger than before!”
“Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is dealing with a major midfield dilemma after Casemiro was sent off in the 0-0 draw with Southampton. The Brazilian is expected to miss the next four home games because of injuries to fellow midfielders Christian Eriksen, Marcel Sabitzer, and Donny van de Beek,” Declan Olley said. “Bruno Fernandes started in central midfield with Casemiro, but he struggled in the deeper areas, losing possession 28 times, the most of any player in the game. Ten Hag will be suspicious of Fernandes’ ability to function well in a midfield two. Scott McTominay was preferred over Fred in Casemiro’s absence, and Ten Hag sent in the Scot soon before halftime – and he played excellently.”
