Leicester has confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca on a three-year deal. Maresca has joined the King Power in an effort to assist Leicester to earn promotion from the Championship next season after leaving Pep Guardiola’s coaching team at treble-winning Manchester City. Dean Smith, who failed to prevent Leicester from being relegated last season, is succeeded by the Italian. Following Brendan Rodgers’ departure in April, Smith was offered a short-term contract that would last just through the end of the current season.
“Enzo adds a personality, approach, and desire that perfectly complements the footballing direction we want to go. His mindset has been developed through a long and varied career, including an exceptional education as a coach, and it is in line with our goals for this upcoming period in Leicester City’s history,” Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said after Enzo Maresca was unveiled as the new manager. “His ideology is in line with the goals we have for this subsequent chapter in Leicester City’s history and was developed over the course of a long and diverse career that included an amazing education as a coach. We had noticed Enzo’s profile for some time, and this impression was only strengthened after meeting him and hearing about his excitement for the task at hand. He will be enthusiastically welcomed by our fans, and together we can steer the team back on the path to future success.”
“I’m really happy about the team I’m joining and the great season we have coming up,” new Leicester manager Enzo Maresca said. “Starting off, our goal is to play as well as we can. The most crucial thing is to strive to win games, and from there, we can create our notion and philosophy day by day. First and foremost, we’re going to give it our best, without a doubt, because the club deserves it. That is our responsibility and our job. Then, as I mentioned, we will unquestionably get better day by day and step by step.”
