Arsenal Women captain Kim Little has signed a new contract with the club despite being ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Little, 32, was forced off 12 minutes into Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League victory against Bayern Munich on March 29, and the Gunners stated on Monday that he would not play again this season. However, the midfielder, who joined the club in 2008 and has made 290 appearances and scored 164 goals in two periods, has extended her stay in north London.
“I’m overjoyed to have signed a new contract with Arsenal. When I think back to when I initially joined at the age of 17, I’m so proud of how far we’ve come together,” Arsenal Women captain Kim Little said. “Arsenal has been such a crucial part of my life, and it has gradually become my home. It is still a privilege to represent Arsenal, and I am really determined to move this club ahead and contribute to its success.”
Little was granted an MBE for services to football in the 2023 New Year Honours List, having won six league crowns, three FA Cups, and five league cups during her career at Arsenal. She is eighth in the club’s all-time appearances list and has played more games for Arsenal than any other active player.
“Kim is an exceptional professional as well as a world-class player. Her service here has been exceptional for many years, and we are delighted that she will continue to serve Arsenal for many years to come,” Arsenal Women head coach Jonas Eidevall said. “Kim is such a vital part of what we are striving to do here at Arsenal Football Club, both on and off the pitch, that we are all overjoyed with this news.”
Arsenal is chasing its first WSL title since 2019, despite missing important attackers Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema for much of the season. They presently sit third in the table, three points behind leaders Manchester United, whom they will meet on Wednesday in what could be a pivotal match in determining the league title. Arsenal is also in the Champions League semi-finals, where they will face Wolfsburg, hoping to reach their first European final since their 2007 triumph.
