Barcelona manager Jonatan Giraldez revealed that Lucy Bronze is feeling much better after she suffered a knee injury against Chelsea. In the 65th minute, the defender collapsed clutching her knee and required on-field medical assistance. When her knee gave out as she attempted to leave, worries increased. She hopped down the tunnel with a few stumbles and looked on the verge of tears. She did, however, subsequently make a comeback on the bench with an ice pack tied to her knee and continued to play full-time with her Barcelona colleagues despite limping. Although Bronze appeared to have a serious injury at the moment, Giraldez assured reporters following the game that Bronze is fine.
“When Lucy first started experiencing knee pain, she was a little concerned, but now she’s feeling much better,” Barcelona manager Jonatan Giraldez said about Lucy Bronze. “She experienced knee pain, but I believe she is currently OK. I spoke with her right after following the game. Though first unsettling, I believe she is okay at the moment.”
The incident occurs after England captain Leah Williamson, who ruptured her ACL in Wednesday’s WSL loss to Manchester United, was forced to withdraw from the World Cup on Friday. In addition to Millie Bright, Beth Mead is also anticipated to miss the competition due to an ACL injury she sustained in November when playing against Manchester United. She also had a knee injury, albeit it is not an ACL, and it is still unclear whether she will be ready for the World Cup.
Williamson stated that her “World Cup dream is over” after rupturing her ACL. Williamson’s recuperation is not expected to take more than six months, according to Arsenal, and she will not be ready to lead the Lionesses in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which takes place from July 20 to August 20. The team is selected by head coach Sarina Wiegman in late May, and England’s debut is against Haiti on Saturday, July 22, in Brisbane.
