England have been drawn in a group alongside Scotland in the Women’s Nations League. England defeated Scotland 2-1 in their World Cup match in France in 2019 thanks to goals from Nikita Parris and Ellen White; Claire Emslie scored in response for Scotland. Later this year, the competition will begin, and they will be joined by Belgium and the Netherlands in Group A1. Group A3 included Wales together with Germany, Denmark, and Iceland. Group B1, which also features Hungary and Albania, will feature a matchup between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The tournament’s League A Group A1 is comprised of four clubs and will begin later this year. The promotion and relegation finals are slated for February 2024, while all group games will be played between September and December. The 51 competing nations will be split into two leagues of 16 teams each and one league of 19, similar to how the men’s Nations League is played. The four League A champions will advance to the championship match, which will serve as Europe’s 2024 Olympic qualifying match. Prior to the commencement of the 2025 European Championship qualification matches, there will also be promotion and relegation among the leagues. September, October, and November will see games in all three leagues.
With 100 days to the commencement of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, a record 1.5 million tickets are expected to be sold. For the tournament in Australia and New Zealand, which starts on July 20 and ends with the final on August 20 in Sydney at the Accor Stadium, about 650,000 tickets have been sold. The first Women’s World Cup will include 32 teams, including England and the Republic of Ireland, and organizers project that two billion people will watch it on television worldwide.
When Australia plays the Republic of Ireland at the 83,500-capacity Stadium Australia in Sydney and New Zealand plays Norway at the 50,000-capacity Eden Park in Auckland, FIFA anticipates that more than 100,000 spectators will attend the tournament’s opening day overall. The last round of ticket sales has just begun as the clock ticks down to another historic milestone for women’s sports.
