Arsenal has completed the signing of Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna for £19.8m. The defender underwent a medical in Italy, signs a four-year contract with an option of a fifth. He will wear the No 18 shirt for the club. Tomiyasu is capable of playing at both right-back and center-back and was heavily linked with a mover to North London rivals Tottenham earlier in the window.
“Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level.” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said after completing the signing of Takehiro Tomiyasu. “He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability, and composure on the ball. He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”
“He is an important addition to our squad.” Gunners’ technical director Edu said. We’re delighted to have signed Takehiro. We’ve been watching him for a while now and we’re pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bologna.”
Tottenham Hotspur earlier completed the signing of Emerson from Barcelona for £30m. With Tanganga starting the Premier League in that position, Serge Aurier has terminated his contract mutually with Tottenham Hotspur. the defender has played for the North London club for the past four years and will now be a free agent.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Spurs and would like to thank the club and the fans, but I feel now is the right time for me to move onto a new challenge,” Aurier said after leaving the club.
