The two Brazilians Gabriel Sara and Marquinhos helped Norwich City produce one of the most comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Championship. Just past the half-hour mark, Gabriel Sara hammered home emphatically to put the home side ahead, and four minutes later, Arsenal loanee Marquinhos made his debut with another well-taken goal to effectively settle the game. It was an amazing double from a Norwich side that had started cautiously, and they went on to win comfortably, their third in a straight at Carrow Road after going seven games without a home win. They are currently battling for a top-six finish, while Cardiff is barely above the drop zone following their first defeat in three.
Despite their lowly position, the visitors made the early running, with Ben Gibson making an excellent block to stop Connor Wickham after only four minutes. After intercepting a bad crossfield ball from Max Aarons, Mahlon Romeo fired a powerful shot that Angus Gunn did well to gather low to his right. Norwich was curiously restrained in the first half hour, with only a couple of errant shots to show for their efforts, but then they scored two goals in five minutes to drastically transform the tone of the game.
Marquinhos crossed the ball to teammate Brazilian Sara right outside the box in the 33rd minute, and the midfielder hammered home a beautiful low drive into the bottom corner. The Arsenal man soon made it 2-0, side-footing in from close range after Onel Hernandez had reached the byline on the left and picked him out in space. Three minutes after the break, Norwich should have put the game out of reach when Adam Idah sprinted clean through after the visitors had foolishly lost control. But, after beating goalie Ryan Allsop, he wasted a chance by shooting high and wide with only covering defender Mark McGuinness to beat. The Canaries were starting to look like the team that had dominated their last two home games, and Hernandez clipped the crossbar with a shot after latching on to a brilliant delivery into the box from Kenny McLean.
