Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters FC will face each other in Group A for a place in the semi-finals of the Hero Super Cup 2023. The two teams are grouped together with Hero I-League teams Sreenedi Deccan and RoundGlass Punjab. RoundGlass Punjab won the Hero I-League, while Sreenedi Deccan got promoted to Group A after a qualification round victory. Bengaluru FC will be attempting to defend their championship after winning the first Hero Super Cup in 2018. After their Hero ISL demise against the Blues, the Blasters will be out for vengeance and a shot at the title, which will be up for grabs in their home state. The tournament’s third edition will be held in Kerala after a four-year hiatus.
The Blues and Blasters will face stiff competition from the Hero I-League sides in Group A, which promises a true struggle for that one semi-final spot. The Blues’ focus will be on taking the cup home for the second time and adding to their trophy cabinet, and they will seek to carry their 2023 form into the Hero Super Cup. The Blues’ assault will be one to watch, with youngster Sivasakthi Narayanan carving out a starting spot for himself and his relationship with Roy Krishna working wonders for the Blues. Captain Chhetri, who made a significant impression in the Hero ISL knockout stages, will aim to break into the starting XI.
Their greatest strength, however, will be their defense, which has been quite solid since the turn of the year. Bengaluru FC, who have a propensity for the knockout games and a history of winning trophies, would be one of the favorites for the title, especially given their current form. The Blasters finished in the top six and qualified for the playoffs in the Hero ISL 2022-23 season, but they were unable to go all the way again. The Blasters, on the other hand, will attempt to make atonement by playing in their home state and bringing silverware to the club in the third edition of the Hero Super Cup. Ivan Vukomanovic has always had a keen interest in the junior team.
