FC Goa midfielder Glan Martins revealed that he cannot put into words how much the team has missed their fans. The Hero Indian Super League matches have been played behind closed doors for the last two seasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The upcoming season will see fans return to the stadium after a two-year absence.
Many young players have emerged over the past two seasons and this season will be their first experience playing in front of crowds. Martins is one such player who has transformed from a youth prospect to a regular in the Indian national team in the past couple of years.
“One of my fondest dreams had long been to play for FC Goa. In January 2021, it finally came to pass, and I realized I had to seize the moment. This January, it will be two years since I joined the club. And yet, I’m going to play one game in front of my own people, the crazy FC Goa crowd,” Glan Martins said. “This season, it’s going to finally change, and I can’t wait to step foot on the Fatorda field and begin living the dream. Words cannot adequately explain how much the last two seasons’ 12th man has been missed by all of us. I can still recall supporting FC Goa at Fatorda, and I can’t wait to see what it’s like to be on the other end of that support.”
“FC Goa had a forgettable season. Over the past few months, I can’t remember how many times I’ve read this statement in publications, on websites, and on social media,” he added. “But that is far from the truth. Actually, we don’t want to let our Hero ISL 2021–22 campaign slip our minds. Instead, we want to keep it in mind throughout our preseason and the remainder of our forthcoming season because we absolutely do not want that to happen again.”
