Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia believes the Vietnam tour will help the team’s preparations for the upcoming AFC Cup. India will take on Singapore and Vietnam on September 24th and 27th respectively in the Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament. Igor Stimac had his contract renewed after the AIFF approved the recommendation of the Technical Committee. Bhutia lauded the decision as it will help the team focus on preparing for the tournament.
“The fact that our national team will play some games there, in my opinion, is fantastic. I anticipate the tour being enjoyable. A highly strong squad is Vietnam. Also, Singapore is. The gamers will gain valuable experience from it,” former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia said. “Given that we don’t have much time before we enter the Asian Cup competition, the committee’s choice is quite wise. The extension will make players and coaches more at ease and allow them plenty of time to improve on what they have been doing for the last three to four years. So perhaps this game and the Asia Cup preparation would go much better now.”
The Indian national team players will benefit from the new longer Indian football season, which started with the Durand Cup and will continue with the Hero Indian Super League and the Super Cup, as they will be at the height of their fitness levels when they compete in the AFC Asian Cup. In 2019, India narrowly missed a place in the knockout stages and will look to go a step further this time around.
