West Ham boss David Moyes is under pressure before the Fulham game after their 5-1 loss against Newcastle at home. Newcastle thrashed West Ham 5-1 at home on Wednesday night, handing the Hammers a crushing setback. West Ham is only one goal away from relegation in the Premier League, but they have a game in hand on their opponents. It was business as usual on Thursday, with Moyes set to speak to the media on Friday morning before Saturday’s vital 3 p.m. kickoff at Craven Cottage. Despite spending £179 million in the summer, West Ham has had a poor domestic season, losing 15 league games and winning only three of their last 16.
The Hammers, in 15th place, are one of four teams with 27 points, along with Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth, in 18th place. West Ham, on the other hand, still has a chance to win their first major trophy in 43 years as they prepare for a Europa Conference League quarter-final against Gent later this month. He was asked if he felt the West Ham board would consider a managerial change after their 5-1 loss to Newcastle.
“I have no doubt they are on my side. I’m confident in how we operate together and what they think,” West Ham boss David Moyes said. “As a manager, I must [take responsibility] and answer inquiries. You’ve seen the game and can describe what you’ve seen. I’m a big boy who has previously quit other jobs. If this happens, I’ll have to go with it. I enjoy my work here. I like the individuals I work with and have had a great time here. I’m hoping there will be a handful more major days in the near future.”
By full-time, there were large swaths of vacant seats at the London Stadium, and the remaining home fans greeted the final whistle with boos following their team’s defeat. Moyes stated he didn’t blame any fans for leaving early, but he did say they needed to “stand up and be true supporters” with his team in trouble.
