Leeds has completed the signing of Weston McKennie on loan from Juventus until the end of the season. After Max Wober and Georginio Rutter, McKennie is the third player that Jesse Marsch’s team has brought in during this January transfer window. The midfielder, who has received 41 American caps, faced off against England in the World Cup group stage match in Qatar in November. Leeds has the option to make the agreement permanent for an initial £30 million in the summer, although this only becomes a requirement if other requirements are completed.
“I can’t deny my excitement. The January timeframe operates swiftly. Before coming here about a week ago, I wasn’t sure where I was headed,” Weston McKennie said after completing his loan move to Leeds. “It’s really exciting to hear the interest. Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson, and Jesse Marsch all here, and I’m prepared to begin. It gives me an adrenaline rush to come out and witness the people going crazy since I’ve heard the support and atmosphere are incredible. It gives you a 10-fold increase in energy. Elland Road rocks. The stadium is very lovely. Very high caliber.”
“Continuously working hard 90 minutes of tackles, trash talk, and everything else, including both humorous and serious moments,” he added about expectations of him. “I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League, so it’s a dream come true. I’m prepared to have the support system I do have here.”
“Juventus must generate revenue. They have traditionally had a high wage bill. Weston McKennie is a player that has performed admirably for them, although he is not a crucial member of the team,” Andy Bassell said. “He has the appearance of a Premier League player who will succeed. When you consider the American link, Leeds becomes clear. They weren’t the only ones with an interest. He has a powerful engine and has demonstrated his ability to score goals. He has improved at Juventus. His signing is intriguing.”
