Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool fans to trust the owners despite the lack of signings as they languish in ninth place. As of right now, Liverpool is wallowing in ninth position in the Premier League and is at real risk of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League for the upcoming season. Despite having a long injury list and being 10 points off fourth place, the Reds only signed Dutch forward Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window for a price of between £35 million and £45 million. However, Carragher is quick to point out that FSG is the owner who likes to wait until a particular target becomes available, in a model that has become the envy of Europe, despite his sympathy for the Liverpool fans’ concerns over the club’s inaction in January.
“In terms of injuries, they have had a fairly difficult season medically. That may be due to bad luck occasionally, or it may be because of how injuries are handled and who is involved. I’m not sure if it’s a problem or not that a doctor (Jim Moxon) who left over the summer has not been replaced. But because of their unfortunate luck, they must somehow organize the medical section,” Jamie Carragher said about Liverpool. “Regarding transfers, I can appreciate Liverpool supporters’ annoyance when they watch other teams splashing cash left, right, and center while their team is bringing in no new players, giving the impression that they have given up on the race for the top four.”
When FSG attempted to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco and would have moved to sign Jude Bellingham had Borussia Dortmund shown any interest in offloading the England international last summer, Carragher contends that it is unfair to hold FSG accountable for failing to strengthen in the midfield. The former Liverpool defender thinks the Americans will blow the cash this summer to make up for their recent lack of expenditure, with the Reds allegedly still pushing to sign Bellingham. Carragher believes that Liverpool will need to make wise transfers this summer in addition to making significant investments to strengthen the midfield.
