Leicester winger Harvey Barnes believes he would be devastated if the team is relegated from the Premier League. It was summed perfectly by Monday’s 5-3 loss to Fulham. Before the Leicester players had departed Craven Cottage, Everton held a three-goal lead. Nottingham Forest had also won by the time they got home, and they were now in the relegation zone. Leicester supporters have observed this precipitous drop in slow motion, ambitions for the Champions League giving way to concerns for the Championship. There was a nagging feeling that quality will win out despite the fact that the slump persisted and management changes were made.
“We failed ourselves while it was in our hands. When you do that, all you can do is wait and hope for favorable outcomes to lessen the blow. They clearly did not,” Leicester winger Harvey Barnes said. “If you are succeeding and you get a poor outcome, you think about it and then you forget about it. You lose a game this season and then other outcomes go against you. It is difficult to go past it. In the bottom three, we are. You already know it. It doesn’t disappear.”
“In my game, I wanted to include that. Others must now step forward, thus I’ve somewhat changed my strategy,” he added. “I’m attempting to take center stage by positioning myself in the middle and advancing from behind more. For instance, Kelechi [Iheanacho] loves to come short when he plays, so it is my responsibility to lengthen the game behind. I’ve scored a couple of goals while playing as a striker.”
Only 10 players—all of whom play for teams in the top half—have more Premier League goals this season. However, he is not in the mood to rejoice or relieve himself of the blame for Leicester’s situation. He is aware that he will never be content. Leicester has huge personalities and big players. The fact that many of them will go on to greater things regardless of what happens next is one of the complaints leveled at this group, too. Among those who can anticipate their maneuvers are James Maddison and Youri Tielemans.
