Levi Colwill is set to have a talk with new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino before signing a new contract. After a successful season on loan at Brighton, Chelsea has stated the player is not for sale this summer and they want to speak with him about a new contract. Before considering fresh terms, the England U21 wants to know how he fits into Pochettino’s plans for this season and how much regular playing time he can eventually anticipate. When Colwill returns to pre-season training after serving with his country at the U21 Euros, he will be looking to grasp just how fundamental those plans are since he is under contract until 2025. He is anticipated to participate in Georgia’s quarterfinal matchup with Portugal on Sunday.
Given his left-footedness, Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is regarded as one of England’s top center-back prospects and is somewhat of a commodity. However, he is also vying for Chelsea’s left center-back position with Benoit Badiashile, a £35 million acquisition from Monaco in January. Colwill was sought by Brighton permanently this summer, but a £30 million offer was simply turned down by Chelsea, who insisted he was not for sale and was important to Pochettino’s plans. Colwill has been a target for a number of Premier League clubs in addition to Brighton.
In the meanwhile, Rangers and Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers have reached an agreement. The manager, Michael Beale, has made the striker a top target as he nears a sixth summer signing. The player scored 10 goals last season. Despite the lack of a formal contract, it is believed that the Nigerian international should transfer to Ibrox after a failed initial attempt. Abdallah Sima, Sam Lammers, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, and Kieran Dowell have already been added to Beale’s roster, and the manager is reportedly happy with the club’s recent business. Despite having an offer rejected, Rangers are still interested in Feyenoord attacker Danilo and Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes.
Rangers will travel to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock to open the 2023–24 Scottish Premiership season. After that, on August 8 or 9, Michael Beale’s team will play the opening leg of their Champions League third qualifying round. On August 12, the team will resume league play when Livingston comes to Ibrox.
