Arsenal defender William Saliba has signed a new four-year contract. Under manager Mikel Arteta, the France defender, who cost the Gunners £27 million in 2019, has emerged as one of Arsenal’s most crucial players. Following the signing of new contracts for Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Aaron Ramsdale, which gave their project a major boost, Arsenal has now committed the 22-year-old player until 2027. Arsenal, which finished second in the Premier League to triple champions Manchester City last year, has already made significant investments in their team this summer in an effort to close the gap.
Kai Havertz has already arrived after arriving for £65 million from Chelsea, and Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber are anticipated to follow him soon for a combined £143.5 million. Saliba, who had one year left on his previous deal, has switched from wearing number 12 to number 2 for the next season, according to Arsenal.
“Although I was born in north Paris, I was raised in north London,” Arsenal defender William Saliba said after signing a contract. “I understand that it must have seemed odd to you. Before you get to watch me play, I arrive as an unknown youngster and start moving around to other teams [on loan]. But I now realize that this was the right course of action for me. Last summer, when I returned to the club and played a crucial role in the squad, words cannot adequately express how I feel in this place or how you [fans] make me feel. I felt ten feet tall thanks to the boss and the staff’s faith in me, as well as your love and support, so thank you Gooners; this is for you. Let’s move forward while we are all here.”
“We had been wanting to renew William’s contract with us for a very long time. Last year, William demonstrated his talent and value to our team,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said. “It’s impressive how talented he is at such a young age of 22, but there is always potential for improvement with any player at this point in their career. In the next years, we’re excited to keep working with William.”
