Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold believes that Liverpool is on the right path as they chase down a Champions League spot. With a dominating win over Wolves last midweek, it appears that Liverpool is beginning to regain control of their season. With four Premier League clean sheets in a row and key players like as Virgil van Dijk and Diogo Jota back from injury, this weekend’s crucial match against Manchester United should present the ideal opportunity for Liverpool to consolidate their fight for a Champions League berth.
“We’re stringing together results and playing some good football. We’re getting the wins, which is important at this point in the season, and we need to keep pushing as far as we can. We’re on the right track, but we must keep going,” Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold said. “We recognize as a group that we have no control over the situation. We need results to go our way, but there’s still a long way to go, and with so many games to play, everything is possible. It’s critical for us to gain points on the board, and that’s where our minds are right now. We’ll know where we stand in April and May, but for now, we have to make sure we’re in a good position to press on. Three points against [Manchester] United on Sunday will go a long way towards attaining that goal.”
The previous time Liverpool and Manchester United met at Anfield, Liverpool won easily. Mohamed Salah’s two goals clinched a 4-0 victory, putting them atop the league at the moment. They had already won the Carabao Cup and were preparing for the FA Cup final against Chelsea. Manchester United cruised to a convincing Carabao Cup win against Newcastle and are already considered championship contenders, while Liverpool is still looking to ignite their season – but the form is rarely significant in rivalries like one.
“They’re playing excellent football, but games against Manchester United are never easy,” he added. “Manchester United vs. Liverpool is usually a difficult fixture, and they always have a good squad and good players; it’s never an easy game, and I’m sure it won’t be on Sunday.”
