QPR has confirmed the sacking of head coach Neil Critchley after just two months in charge. Critchley was appointed on December 11 after Michael Beale left for Rangers, however, he only managed one win in his 12 games in command. QPR was booed off the field at home on Tuesday after losing 3-0 to Sunderland, dropping them to 17th in the Championship, 10 points above the relegation zone. And the former Blackpool manager’s final straw was a 3-1 defeat away to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon. QPR was top of the table when they defeated Wigan on October 22, but that was their only home victory in their previous 17 games. Mike Garrity and Iain Brunskill, Critchley’s assistants, have both left Loftus Road.
“It’s unfortunate that such a decision had to be taken so early in Neil’s career with the club. But, after witnessing the team’s fall from playoff contender to the relegation battle, the board felt obligated to interfere,” QPR said in a statement after the sacking of Neil Critchley. “There’s no doubt Neil came into a difficult circumstance, and we’d like to thank him for his exceptional work ethic and professionalism throughout our encounters. He is a wonderful man, and we have no doubt that he will be a success in other countries, just as he was in Blackpool.”
“Unfortunately, nothing has gone as planned for any of us. We appreciate the need of scheduling a speedy appointment as we reach a critical period of the season,” director of football Les Ferdinand said. “Stability is vital for a football club’s success, and this season has presented us with issues that have taken away that stability. To move forward, we must all learn from history and collaborate.”
