The best players in the world have all played for Liverpool. Many outstanding attackers have represented Liverpool throughout the years and have contributed to the club’s goal total. 10. Harry Chambers – 151 goals
Harry Chambers signed with Liverpool in 1915 and played 339 times, scoring 151 goals. Chambers, who went by the nickname Smiler, established himself as a key member of Liverpool and contributed to the club’s two First Division championships in a row in 1921–22 and 1922–23. Perhaps Harry Chambers’ hat-trick in Liverpool’s 5-1 victory against Everton in 1922 was his best game for the club. Chambers played with Liverpool until 1928, at which point he left the team to sign with West Bromwich Albion. He also played for England in 8 games, scoring 5 goals.
9. Michael Owen – 158 goals
Michael Owen, one of the best attackers of his generation, is most well-known for his time spent with Liverpool. In 1996, he made his club debut. He played with Liverpool until 2004. For the team, Owen made 297 appearances and 158 goals. Michael Owen won six titles while playing for Liverpool, including the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. In addition to twice taking home the Premier League Golden Boot, Owen was also named the league’s Player of the Year for the 1997–98 campaign. In 2001, Owen was playing with Liverpool when he took home the Ballon d’Or, helping him onto the list of the Top 10 Liverpool goalscorers of all time.
8. Kenny Dalglish – 172 goals
Sir Kenny Dalglish, one of the greatest footballers to come out of Scotland, holds a very special place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters. Dalglish joined Liverpool in 1977 after an effective 8-year tenure at Celtic. Later, he contributed significantly to Liverpool’s success in the late 1970s and early 1980s. During his playing career, Dalglish contributed to Liverpool winning 8 League championships. In addition, he assisted Liverpool in capturing three European Cups. In the 1989–90 season, Dalglish took over as Liverpool’s player–manager, and he helped the club win their last league championship to date.
7. Robbie Fowler – 183 goals
Robbie Fowler, one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history, started his junior career at Liverpool in 1984 and joined the senior squad in 1993. Fowler, a prolific scorer, helped Liverpool win five championships and established himself as a key member of the team. He entered as a substitute in the 2001 UEFA Cup Final against Alaves and scored. Fowler established a record for the quickest hat trick in the Premier League while playing for Liverpool. Within four and a half minutes against Arsenal, he scored three goals. Sadio Mane, who would later play for Liverpool, smashed his record.
6. Mohamed Salah – 186 goals
The Egyptian attacker joined the Reds from Roma back in 2017 and has been setting records ever since. He uses his right flank to play as a winger and is utterly reliable in his finishing. He and Son Heung-min shared the Golden Boot for the 2021/22 season after netting 23 goals in the Premier League.Salah did not have his finest season with Liverpool, though. His greatest campaign saw him score 44 goals across all competitions and take home the Golden Boot in 2017–18.
5. Steven Gerrard – 186 goals
Gerrard, who played much of his career with Liverpool, is frequently regarded as the club’s all-time greatest player. Gerrard joined the senior squad in 1998 after spending 9 years in the junior system. He established himself as a vital member of Liverpool, rising to the position of captain in 2003. Gerrard scored in the Champions League final as Liverpool was charismatically guided to victory. After 710 games for Liverpool, Gerrard said goodbye in 2015 with 186 goals to his credit. Then, until his retirement in 2016, he played for LA Galaxy. Between 2000 and 2014, Steven Gerrard made 114 appearances for England and netted 21 goals.
4. Billy Liddell – 228 goals
One of Liverpool’s finest players ever, Liddell joined the club in 1938 but didn’t make his official debut until 1946 because of his service in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Liddell was a talented attacker who made 534 appearances for Liverpool and scored 228 goals. He aided the team’s First Division triumph in 1946–1947. From 1955 through 1958, Liddell served as Liverpool’s captain. Up to his retirement in 1961, Liddell was a player with Liverpool. From 1942 through 1955, he also participated in 29 games for Scotland, scoring 8 goals. At the age of 79, Billy Liddell passed away in 2001.
3. Gord Hodgson – 241 goals
In 1925, Gordon Hodgson made his Liverpool debut. Hodgson was not just a talented attacker, but also a selfless one. He not only made good passes to teammates but also scored a lot of goals. Hodgson played for Liverpool from 1923 to 1936, making 377 games and scoring 241 goals. Hodgson played for Aston Villa and Leeds United after leaving Liverpool before retiring in 1939. Hodgson competed for two different national teams. He played once in 1924 for his native South Africa, where he was born, and three times for England, when he scored a goal against Wales. Hodgson took over as Port Vale’s manager after retiring. From 1946 until his death from cancer in 1951, he served in this capacity.
2. Roger Hunt – 285 goals
At Liverpool, Roger Hunt’s football career began and peaked. Hunt signed up with Liverpool in 1958 and stayed with the team through 1969. Hunt made 492 appearances for Liverpool during his stay there, scoring 286 goals in the process. He assisted the team in winning two League crowns, two FA Cups, one League Cup, and three Charity Shields. Hunt was Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer when he left the club, but a player who will be mentioned later in this article broke his record. No other Liverpool player has yet to surpass Hunt’s 245 League goals total.
1. Ian Rush – 346 goals
With 346 goals in 660 games for the club, Ian Rush leads all scorers for Liverpool. In 1980, Rush, being an adolescent, moved from Chester City to Liverpool. He developed into a key member of the team as Liverpool won several awards, including two European Cups. In 1986, Rush moved from Liverpool to Juventus. His time at Juve, however, was unsuccessful. He returned to Liverpool in 1988, and he continued to play there until 1996. Rush’s second stint at Liverpool wasn’t as productive as his first, although he still contributed to the club’s 5 championships, including the 1989–90 League crown, helping him top the list of the Top 10 Liverpool goalscorers of all time.
