Nottingham Forest has completed the signing of free agent Andre Ayew after leaving Al Sadd. Lewis O’Brien, whose loan transfer to Blackburn fell through on Transfer Deadline Day, has no place on Forest’s squad list of 25, which was submitted to the Premier League on Thursday afternoon. Ayew arrives on a contract that runs through the end of the season. Ayew, who scored 35 goals in 84 games while playing for Swansea under Forest manager Steve Cooper, was apparently also considering Everton on the final day of the transfer window. The 33-year-old attacker is thrilled to rejoin Cooper after being without a club after leaving Qatari team Al Sadd.
“It feels amazing to join Nottingham Forest. I am aware of the club’s size, importance to the community, and size of its fan base. Even though I enjoy playing at The City Ground and against Forest, it has always been challenging,” Andre Ayew said after completing his move to Nottingham Forest. “Steve Cooper is someone who is very familiar with me and is able to collaborate with me both on and off the field. He’s a special coach, a special person, and someone I truly look up to. We have a close relationship. I am prepared to offer everything I have to the team and ensure that we can remain in the Premier League because I know what I can add to the group.”
Ayew joined Al Sadd in July 2021, helping them win the Qatar Stars League title the previous season with 15 goals in 21 league games. By the time he left, he had scored 22 goals in 39 appearances. With his participation in the 2022 World Cup, Ayew became the only Ghanaian player to appear in each of the country’s previous three World Cups. He scored in Ghana’s opening group-stage match against Portugal. Ayew has 113 international caps for Ghana.
