Nottingham Forest has completed the signing of Keylor Navas from Paris Saint-Germain. Navas, a goalkeeper from Costa Rica who played for Real Madrid and won three Champions League championships, has been loaned out to the City Ground till the end of the current campaign. Navas is currently in Paris, but if Dean Henderson is still sidelined with a thigh injury, he might be able to play against Leeds in a crucial Premier League match at the City Ground on Saturday. Shelvey has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Forest to terminate his seven-year stay at Newcastle, while Felipe has agreed to a one-and-a-half-year agreement. After 202 appearances for the Magpies, Shelvey bid farewell to the crowd on the field at halftime of their Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg victory over Southampton.
“It’s a pleasure to be here. When I heard that Forest was interested, it caught my eye right away, and I was eager to come down. Considering the history of this incredible football team, I’m overjoyed to begin playing for it,” Jonjo Shelvey said after he joined Keylor Navas at Nottingham Forest. “My immediate goal is to fight for and keep my spot on the squad. It won’t be easy because there will be fierce competition for slots, but I’m looking forward to the challenge, and the rivalry will only help the squad advance.”
“When we spoke, Eddie Howe spoke highly of Steve Cooper. I already knew he was a fantastic coach from my time at Liverpool, but finally seeing him in person has been a breath of fresh air. He has made it plain to me what he expects and the high standards he sets, so I’m hoping I can come and support the team as they battle to stay in the Premier League. I’ve played in this league for a while, so I understand what it takes to succeed and put together a winning team. I can’t wait to start working with everyone here,” he added.
