England Women midfielder Jordan Nobbs revealed she is delighted to be in the England Women fold as they prepare to take on Austria in Sunderland. She is recovering from an ankle injury suffered in the pre-season. The game against Austria marked the first time she has been called up to the Lionesses squad since Sarina Weigmann took charge. Nobbs missed out on the World Cup in 2019 after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament.
“It’s amazing, it kind of felt like my first call-up again.” England Women midfielder Jordan Nobbs said. “Obviously I’ve had a rough few years. Always to wear the England badge and to be back in the squad with the girls and a new manager, it’s an exciting time. You never take these times for granted. You want everything to go well in the football world, but it happens, injuries happen, selection things happen, and you just have to stay mentally strong. So that’s what I’ve done every time.”
“It’ll be nice to see them, and that was one of the very first stadiums I ever played at – at half-time in a men’s game when I was seven – so it’s a nice moment,” she added. “It (the stadium) is home really, ever since I was a kid. I used to play in little tournaments just outside of it. I’ve got a book at home where I’ve kept a bit of the grass from my boot when I was seven. Sunderland was a part of my football journey and it’s always nice to go home and kind of reminisce on that.”
