The French FA have lodged a complaint against Emiliano Martinez after his antics following the World Cup Final. Martinez, who played a significant role in Argentina’s victory over France in the penalty shootout, was recently seen in Buenos Aires holding a doll with Mbappe’s face attached to it as part of the victory celebrations. Even after the championship game in Qatar, he requested a mock minute of silence for Mbappe in the locker room. As a result, Argentinean FA president Claudio Tapia received a letter from French FA president Noel Le Graet pushing him to take action against the World Cup-winning goalie.
“We have started several distinct processes. It’s quite startling,” the French FA issued a statement against Emiliano Martinez. “These young men have sacrificed much for the success of the France team. It is crucial that we assist them. I wrote to my Argentine Football Association counterpart. In the context of a sporting event, I consider these extremes odd and difficult to comprehend. It exceeds bounds. Mbappe acted in a model manner.”
While acknowledging his admiration for Aston Villa’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Martinez, Unai Emery claims the Argentine needs to talk to him about his celebrations. Martinez has drawn a lot of criticism for his behavior in Qatar, despite having contributed to Argentina’s first World Cup triumph since 1986.
“It might be challenging at times to control strong emotions,” Emery said. “I’ll talk to him about some of the celebrations next week, but for the time being, I’ll respect his decision to be with his national team. We can discuss it once he is back with us.”
