Martin Odegaard scored a screamer to help Arsenal produce one of the comprehensive football scores of the weekend in the Premier League. Hugo Lloris made a dreadful error and placed a Bukayo Saka cross into his own net for Mikel Arteta’s club in an attempt to capitalize on Manchester City’s loss to Manchester United on Saturday (14). After dominating the first half, Martin Odegaard’s magnificent long-range goal (36), which came afterward, handed Arsenal their first away Premier League victory over Spurs since 2014. After putting on yet another lackluster first-half performance, Antonio Conte’s team improved, but they were unable to beat Aaron Ramsdale, who made a number of outstanding saves.
After a battle with Richarlison during the post-game chaos, the Arsenal goalkeeper appeared to be kicked by a supporter behind his goal as he sought to collect his water bottle. The incident was swiftly settled, though, and Arsenal was able to celebrate their victory and take a commanding lead in the Premier League title race, leaving their north London rivals in fifth position and five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
Prior to the game, Chelsea halted Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk to Arsenal, despite the event had no bearing on the playing field. After being tripped up by Gabriel Martinelli in his own area, Lloris was forced into a close-range save from Eddie Nketiah as the Gunners seized control. The Spurs goalkeeper was given a reprieve, but less than ten minutes later, after the Arsenal forward had grabbed Thomas Partey’s pass over the top, he made another mistake by diverting Saka’s cross into his own net. It was the Frenchman’s third goal-resulting mistake in the Premier League this season.
During a rare Spurs charge upfield, Ramsdale stopped Heung-Min Son, but otherwise, it was all Arsenal. After Odegaard forced Lloris to dive to stop Partey’s well-directed volley, Lloris’ shot hit the post. Shortly after, they scored their second goal. Odegaard led Arsenal upfield before scoring his eighth Premier League goal of the season with a flawless shot from outside the box into the bottom corner. Harry Kane’s near-post header was stopped by Ramsdale just before halftime, giving the Spurs a chance. The visitors made a strong start to the second half, which caused the Arsenal goalkeeper to have a busy period.
The wing-back slid through the Arsenal defense to prevent Kane once more, this time from a Dejan Kulusevski ball, but the 24-year-old stretched himself out and managed to get a toe to Ryan Sessegnon’s low drive. Kulusevski subsequently missed with a diagonal shot, but Arsenal immediately regained command and effectively handled the rest of the second half, albeit without the dominance they had before the break.
When Ramsdale seemed to be kicked by a supporter who jumped onto the advertising hoarding behind the goal following his altercation with Richarlison, a confrontation between the players threatened to break out after the final whistle. But Arteta was one of those who helped intervene to stop the fight, first pulling Ramsdale from the Spurs players and then doing the same to a furious Granit Xhaka before Arsenal celebrated their victory in front of the guests.
“The best. It’s great to enter the locker room and sense the team’s happiness and camaraderie and how much it meant to them,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. “Because of how we interact, how we coexist, and how united we are, we are aware that we are here. We must keep that in mind since tomorrow we must attempt to do the same and continue in the current form.”
