Celtic extended their unbeaten run to 14 games as they produced one of the most comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Scottish Premiership. Jota finally broke the score with a sliding close-range goal at the conclusion of the first half. Derek McInnes’ team came in with the intention of making it difficult for the champs, and they mostly succeeded in doing so thanks to some tenacious defending. Celtic increased their level of effort in the second half, soon doubling their advantage through Kyogo Furuhashi, and they missed numerous opportunities to make the scoreline even more convincing.
Celtic had a strong motive to resume winning after saving a late draw at Rangers on Monday. However, despite Ange Postecoglou’s team controlling possession, they were unable to create any chances since Kilmarnock surrounded their own area with players and was content to take their time anytime the ball was left to play. The visitors’ game strategy immediately infuriated Celtic’s fans, but it was up to their team to break Kimarnock down, which they eventually succeeded in doing through Jota. The goal was scored when Daizen Maeda, a Portuguese forward, eventually discovered space behind the Kilmarnock defense and utilized it to put in an appealing cross from the left for the forward after Kyogo missed the kick.
However, the Japanese forward scored immediately after the break to extend the Celtic’s lead. He did this by converting Reo Hatate’s wonderful right-wing cross. Kilmarnock’s chances of winning at the champions’ stadium appeared to be over after that goal, as Celtic continued to create opportunities while failing to capitalize on any of them. While James Forrest missed two glorious opportunities late on, the first of which Walker saved and the second of which came back off the post from a matter of yards, substitute Georgios Giakoumakis struck the post with a header and then rattled the crossbar with a curling long-range effort just moments later.
