Swansea came back from three goals down to help Swansea produce one of the high-scoring football results of the weekend in the Championship. The Sky Blues took the lead thanks to goals from Jonathan Panzo, Jamie Allen, and Viktor Gyokeres before Joel Piroe and Jay Fulton cut the deficit. Swansea, who entered the game without a victory in six games, completed the comeback when Cullen prodded in from close range just seconds after entering the field. Coventry played their first home game in defeat after accepting a new contract to play at the CBS Arena on Monday after receiving an eviction notice from Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group.
After 29 minutes, Panzo, a loanee from Nottingham Forest, climbed highest to head in his first goal in English football off of a corner kick from Gustavo Hamer. Swansea players returned to the field with manager Russell Martin’s remarks still ringing in their ears, but Coventry doubled their lead in less than two minutes. After 54 minutes, Gyokeres made no mistake as he was put through by O’Hare’s pass, putting Coventry three goals ahead despite a nervous wait as the ball trickled into the other corner after touching the post.
Swansea had not indicated that they would attempt an implausible comeback, but after 68 minutes, top scorer from the previous campaign Piroe began the reversal by turning in Ryan Manning’s cross from the left. Oliver Cooper and Armstrong Oxo-Flex were both introduced by Martin in an effort to save the game, and it was the latter who forced Wilson into a deft save before Fulton scored on the rebound. Piroe’s header came back off the post, shocking the CBS Arena crowd, and Cullen, who had just been added, was in the perfect spot at the perfect time to turn in.
