The BBC has apologized after pornographic audio interrupted their FA Cup coverage of Wolves vs Liverpool. Presenter Gary Lineker was cut off by obnoxious moaning sounds coming from the studio. Later, he explained on Twitter that a secret phone that had been “taped to the back of the set” was the source of the sound.
“I must admit, I found it amusing,” Gary Lineker later told BBC Newsnight during their FA Cup broadcast. “I would have been frightened if you had told me this morning that I would be appearing on Newsnight tonight to discuss a porn controversy.”
“On someone’s phone, I believe, someone is transmitting something. I’m not sure if you heard it at home,” Liverpool scored the only goal of the first half, and during the half-time analysis. “The goal by Harvey Elliott was a screamer, but it wasn’t the only one we’ve seen tonight.”
“We apologize to any viewers who were upset during this evening’s live football program. We are looking into how this occurred,” a BBC spokesperson said.
When the commotion started, Lineker was previewing the game alongside commentators Paul Ince and Danny Murphy. As he swiftly shifted the coverage to Alan Shearer outside the studio, he briefly exhibited surprise and fought to maintain a straight expression.
Self-styled YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis has since claimed to be behind the incident, which was widely shared across social media. Jarvis, who uses the nickname Jarvo, was convicted of aggravated trespass last October after he collided with England cricketer Jonny Bairstow during a pitch invasion at the Oval in south London. He was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for two years and was also banned from attending any venue where a sporting fixture is being held in England and Wales for two years and from traveling abroad for 12 months.
